bigger posts coming… soon v-i Matt & Jess (or Massica to their friends) were married on the 3rd of April! Having recently moved to Tamworth, Jess was adamant about having photos on the beach on her wedding day. I guess they don’t have a whole lot of beach there in Tamworth! Straight after their ceremony it started raining. It then rained on and off, more on than off, for the remainder of the day. We grabbed every opportunity we could for photos near the Wollongong harbour and BIG props to the bridal party for standing in the rain with umbrella’s for the shoot. I remember Jess saying to me at one stage – “I understand if your photo’s will be not as good because of the weather.” <smiles> It was a bigger bridal party to what I normally shoot – 6+6 which made it entirely crazy and alot of fun! (If only you had seen and heard what I did as the girls got ready… eek!) We spent the evening at City Beach Function Centre for their reception, drying off and partying hard.
windy after they got out of the cars…
some ceremony <3…
then it rained some more…
I was under a sheet I found in my car when we were shooting this next one. Must have looked slightly bizarre!
over to the now-empty courthouse…
then we entered reception. It was really nice outside at this point so I got them just outside the venue for some photos on the beach…
look what I just caught… (insert cheesy grin)
love this one…
some first-dance photos then some photos outside…
what could be hotter than kissing in the rain…
winding up the crazybooth for some amusing and at times down-right shocking antics
more c-booth photos here. (passcode = Jess’ maiden name) Leave them some sexy words below… v-i Last month was my first out-of-state wedding for the year! James & Adele were originally planing on having their wedding at Milton Park in Bowral, but due to circumstances, decided to have their wedding back in Fremantle, Perth (or ‘Freo’ to the locals). When they told me that they would have to cancel my services I suggested I’d be happy to travel over to Perth. They hadn’t considered that an option and loved the idea of not having to find another photographer they loved 6 months out from the wedding! I arrived on the Thursday and spent alot of time catching up on sleep from the past few months deficit They were married and had their reception at St Paul’s Church in Beaconsfield. The same church Adele’s Mother was married in. A good friend of the family and minister of the church, Peter (aka Peter Priest) married them. The day before the wedding the church was still in the middle of renovations. Weeks earlier it didn’t even have a back wall, so it was amazing to see even the transformation from the Thursday I arrived to the Saturday. I was even roped in to lend a hand and help clean things up Anyway – enough words – on with the photos! James had to be granted special permission to wear his winter navy uniform in this summer season (vs Jeff + JB’s recent wedding)
there was lots of happy, fun moments during the ceremony…
we moved into Freo for some photos – I loved the old buildings and light that hit around that time of day…
making the most of an alleyway next to one of the buildings… <3 this one!!
I could shoot against this facade-thingy all day!
super love this one…
Then down to the beach for the sunset – OVER the water!! It was a shame we had no cloud to bring up the colours – but still stunning!
There was a raised Jetty on the beach and we got Adele and James up onto it with some cheers from onlookers! (about head-height with no steps or a ladder)
the girl can bend…!
then back to St Pauls for the reception in the church hall…
sunflowers grew wild everywhere!
then a few shots around the hall…
Jumps up and down on the chair – “I freakin LOVE my job!” Feel free to Leave James & Adele a lovely comment. v-i
Off to zzzzz land now – but here is a quick-one from Adam & Alison’s Wollongong wedding that was on Saturday. The photo below was taken outside at night at Panorama House with the city lights in the background. A few more weddings to blog before this wedding gets a small feature here, including the wonderful time I had in Perth with James & Adele’s wedding. v-i Last June I attended the Sydney Jerry Ghionis workshop. While I was there, I met Andrew from Impact Images. He runs a wedding and portrait business up on the Central Coast. A few years back I first came across Stockton Beach at Anna Bay and I took some landscape photos there with some old slide film. Ever since going there I have wanted to go back and shoot some brides (or in this case model-brides) amongst the dune. I invited Andrew to come up and join us for the shoot. I worked again with the superbly talented Danielle Hampton, from Makeup by Danielle. If your ever looking for a makeup artist in the Newcastle / Hunter Valley region I suggest you definetly contact her. Our two models for the day were Rebecca Frith (blonde) and Sarah Boulazeris. (brunette) All our gorgeous dresses, bar the black dress Rebecca is in at the end, were provided by Award Winning Newcastle Bridal Designer, Kel-Leigh Couture. I found a spot where you can drive in a normal car, right up to the dunes so after a steep climb up a dune, we were among them and setup base camp… (image courtesy of Andrew)
ok so most of that gear was mine… how embarassing
Kel-Leigh also provided this gorgeous green dress…
Rebecca brought some very cool shoes, so she changed back into what she wore that day and she rocked the next few shots…
Thanks everyone for an awesome day! Check out Andrew’s images on his blog-post here. v-i On the 2nd day at Anna Bay I had our good friends Erica & Luke, my little sister Bianca and Jessica over on the sanddunes. I was dearly hoping for a nice almost-cloud-less day with a pretty sunset but the weather had other ideas. We had a very small window of shooting before it rained and we clamoured into the make-shift basecamp we had setup. Naomi and the boys, including Caleb also joined us and managed to get some sand boarding in before the rain Jess’ 21st birthday was just around the corner, so we stuck it out and got a few happy-snaps with her and her friends.
happy 21st Jess!
v-i More blog posts this week hopefully, before I’m off to Perth to shoot James + Adele’s wedding on the weekend! I’ve set the blog up now, so everytime you see the logo (as below) on an image – with an ‘i’ incorporated in it, roll your mouse over and you will get some details on how the shot was taken. This might include – a behind-the-scenes shot, a lighting diagram, or some scribbled lighting notes. My way of giving back some of the goodies I’ve learn’t along my journey in photography. You can subscribe in the email subscription field to the right and you’ll get emailed when I blog something new. (note for the rollovers to work, your browser must support CSS or you will have to click on the image to change it. Seems to support iPhone too… yay!)
the above appears and works in the bridal: Melanie post below. As always, feel free to hit up the comments to ask questions. I’ll try and respond to them inside the comments and or via email. I was recently on holidays up at Anna Bay, just north of Newcastle in NSW with my family. The time away was a little bit of a break but also for me to shoot some photos on the sand dunes at Stockton Beach. We arrived on the Thursday and the next day, I met up with model Melanie J and makeup artist Danielle Hampton for the shoot. The weather played nice for most of the time and enabled us to great these photos. It was impossibly hot so we didn’t venture onto the sand dunes but stayed on the cooler coast at Birubi beach.
behind the scenes of the above photo – 110cm of mola beauty-dish lighting…!
lots of blue which I LOVE!
then we made it into the water, but it was short lived! There was lighting hitting the water not too far away in the distance and we thought it better to call it a day
thanks Mel + Danielle for your amazing efforts! v-i |
