Paul & Kathryn held a gorgeous, intimate wedding last Saturday in Sydney. Kathryn prepared at The Hilton Sydney before we moved on to their 11am ceremony at St James Church. A few photos around Circular Quay and then Hyde Park before walking over to the Hyde Park Barracks Cafe for their reception. The whole day for me was finished by 4pm, time left over to meet new clients! Special mention to my new assistant Nelson for being a big help on the day!

some floriade promo was going on in the sky

cute <3 !

found some fun light on the ground from a nearby building – Paul happened to put his wineglass down on some chairs that were already there :)

Kat did a great job with her burgundy theme…

Paul woke up this morning with “… something attached to my leg”…

and lots of friends and family having fun!

Have a great time in NEWWWWWWW York guys!

Back on the 22nd was Dave & Katie’s wedding in the Hunter Valley! I originally met them both on Stuart & Tania’s wedding back in 2008. Dave was in the bridal party and I got chatting to them both during the reception. Fast forward a year and a half and it was their turn, with Stuey in the b.party! They had their ceremony in the gorgeous St Patricks of Nulkaba church and their reception at The Sebel Kirkton Park also in the Hunter Valley. The last time I was at The Sebel, it rained all day for Dale & Megan’s wedding so we couldn’t go outside and play in the grounds. (which prompted my wet weather gaurantee) I was super anxious about the weather considering it had been raining in Sydney and Newcastle the weeks before, but we were blessed with a near-perfect day and only a slight show-up of rain.

So here’s a few photos from their gorgeous day…

Katies dress is Naomi’s dream wedding dress…

the flowergirls + boy were waiting for the bridal cars to arrive – lots of cuteness captured…

you can’t really see it at this size, but Dave had some glassy looking eyes as Katie walked down the aisle…

one of the female guests at the reception asked me if I had photographed a bride as beautiful as Katie before…

just outside the church was some glorious vibrant colours :) )

I really loved Katie’s themeing and the details she put together. The flowers were amazing!

it was joked in the speeches that the only thing Dave loved more than Katie was their dog – who made it to the wedding in the form of their cake-topper…

Thanks for letting me be apart of a beautiful day D&K.

Feel free to leave them some nice words in the comments link below :)

Each year during the PMA Australia tradeshow, the Canon Aipp Professional Photography Awards (or APPA) is held also. This gives Australia wide photographers the opportunity to have their work judged by a panel of professional photographers and awarded appropriately. A total of four images can be submitted in a range of categories for judgement. Points are awarded out of 100. Prints that score over 80 are awarded a Silver award, with a sliding scale up to a Gold with distinction being the highest merit level.

This was the first time I entered the APPA’s. I barely made it. It was a last minute decision which only just made it in. This year there was a record number of entries submitted. The judging is cut-throat and highly scrutinised, even the quality of your printing can let you down.

Anyway – I received a sms today saying that 2 of my 4 images had been awarded Silver Awards.
The awarded images are below…

Print A
I entered this into the ‘Wedding Photojournalism’ category.
This image was taken at Tom & Ciara’s wedding back in 2008. The 2 flower girls were peering into the church just before Ciara was due to walk down the aisle into the church.
It scored an 83, 2 points short of a Silver with Distinction

Print B
Also entered into the ‘Wedding Photojournalism’ category.
This was taken at Nathaniel & Skye’s recent wedding in April this year.
Skye was having her dress done up by her sister, a wooden tree motif hang on the wall in the background of her parents house.
This print scored 80.

My other 2 entries both received 76 each.

Thanks to Brent from Photomart for matting my entries while I waited the night before they were couriered, and to Jeremy from Imagescience for his advice and fantastic printing.

John – aka hedgeman!

A few last weddings to shoot now for the winter, and I’ve nearly caught up on my April editing, so I’ll be looking forward to attending to my neglected blog!

In the meantime, we’ve been published in a number of different places… Click the images for the posts.

Pretty in White blogged about our shoot with Jenny Sun Photography back in December last year. They were the designer kind enough to allow us to shoot their pretty, gorgeous dresses for the day.

Our favourite album company Queensberry blogged us back when we blogged earlier about the albums we have come in.

The Modern Weddings website did a Real Weddings article, featuring the stunning wedding of Malcolm & Alex.

Matt & Jess (or Massica to their friends) were married on the 3rd of April! Having recently moved to Tamworth, Jess was adamant about having photos on the beach on her wedding day. I guess they don’t have a whole lot of beach there in Tamworth! Straight after their ceremony it started raining. It then rained on and off, more on than off, for the remainder of the day. We grabbed every opportunity we could for photos near the Wollongong harbour and BIG props to the bridal party for standing in the rain with umbrella’s for the shoot. I remember Jess saying to me at one stage – “I understand if your photo’s will be not as good because of the weather.” <smiles>

It was a bigger bridal party to what I normally shoot – 6+6 which made it entirely crazy and alot of fun! (If only you had seen and heard what I did as the girls got ready… eek!)

We spent the evening at City Beach Function Centre for their reception, drying off and partying hard.

windy after they got out of the cars…

some ceremony <3…

then it rained some more…

I was under a sheet I found in my car when we were shooting this next one. Must have looked slightly bizarre!

over to the now-empty courthouse…

then we entered reception. It was really nice outside at this point so I got them just outside the venue for some photos on the beach…

look what I just caught… (insert cheesy grin)

love this one…

some first-dance photos then some photos outside…

bts

what could be hotter than kissing in the rain…

winding up the crazybooth for some amusing and at times down-right shocking antics :)

more c-booth photos here. (passcode = Jess’ maiden name)

Leave them some sexy words below…

The next day (Saturday) after Andrew & Sally’s wedding was Mat + Liz’s! I had contracted an almost overnight tummy bug Friday night so I brought on my friend Steve Conti to help for the day. (just for the record no, it wasn’t Centennial’s food!) It’d take just about me being in a coma to not turn up for a wedding day.

Their ceremony was at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Warrawong and their reception was at Panorama House Restaurant. Daniel & Mitch from No Limit Pictures videoed and even did a SDE (same day edit) to show at the reception. It seemed a forever since their initial e’session over a year ago.

I started photos with the boys getting ready – something a little different from our usual coverage…

the onto the girls (obviously this wasn’t a shot at the boys house…)

Liz looked a whole lot of yummy…

a sweet moment from their ceremony…

then some different photos around the Port Kembla area…

awesome dress…

unbeknown to even their bridal party, Mat & Liz whisked away from the location photos and went to Illawarra Airport to arrive at the reception in luxury in a helicopter!

at Liz’s request… they hadn’t even been married 24 hours and she was…

points for the lollybar!

Lots & lots of dancing followed their entrance into the reception…

then a few experimental photos outdoors with the Illawarra in the background…

and one you have already seen earlier on the blog…

thanks for a divine day M+L!

I love shooting weddings in Bowral, especially coming up to autumn. The whole area becomes a wash of dizzying colour which I am in absolute heaven shooting.

Andrew & Sally were married on the 26th of March, having their ceremony outdoors are Briars Country Lodge and Inn and their reception at Centennial Vineyards, Bowral. We had a beautiful day with some lovely weather and the day was a whole lot of fun to photograph.

Makeup was by Deahne Brumfield
Celebrant – Sue Jackman – (02) 4862 2696
Flowers: Annettes Florist, Moss Vale

the family driveway in Robertson was gorgeous, they each had their own tree along the driveway!

Sally had her 3 sisters in the bridal party + 1 :)

love this one of Sally in the backyard…

at the ceremony Sally setup a canvas for guests to stamp their thumbs on and ‘leaf’ their name next to it – awesome idea!

chatting with Andrew after, he welled up big time as Sally came down the aisle…

as they signed the register, Sally’s grandma played the piano for the music

some beautiful candid moments…

then onto centennial for some photos… letting the b.party loose..

the whole bridal party was alot of fun

then we went to mingle with the guests before going in. Sally had a gorgeous bird theme running and all the guests had name-tags to wear. On the back of each name-tag was a personalised, handwritten leter to each of the guests. Such a cool idea!

each of the tables had names of the local areas – Robertson etc…

a few quick night photos…

and then time to crank up the crazybooth! Sally bought some hilarious props and we got heaps of crazy photos of the guests…

the rest of the crazybooth photos can be viewed here. (discount applies for the first 2 weeks)

Thanks Prats and Sal for a really awesome day!

feel free to leave them a nice comment below :)
